Yoga on Deck

Vinyasa is a Sanskrit term which means 'to place in a special way'. It can also be used to describe a sequence of flowing asanas (movements), connected with the breath, that take you through Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation.

For those who are new to yoga these terms, along with the fancy poses we all see in magazines, can be quite intimidating and may prevent some from experiencing all that the practice of yoga can offer.

It is my belief that absolutely everyone can benefit from participating in the physical practice of yoga (asana). It is a total mind and body workout, combining a focus on dynamic movement and emphasis on breath to provide strengthening and stretching with meditation and relaxation.

Classes are suitable for beginners, improvers and those of intermediate level.

You will be guided through a dynamic flow of poses, with variations (kramas) provided for different levels. It is important that you listen to your body and do only what it can do, not attempt what your neighbour is doing.

There is no competition in yoga class. It is an opportunity to focus on you.

I don't know who said it but it's true that "yoga is not about touching your toes, it's about what you learn on the way down".

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear" - Buddha
